UCSF Audiology Update XIV – 2022 ( 2 Videos + 1 PDF)
With a focus on pediatric specialization , tinnitus therapy, balance assessment , amplification , and hearing science and diagnostics, this course aims to provide a cutting-edge update of modern audiological practice.
Although audiologists in practice are the target audience for this course , hearing aid dispensers , doctors, audiology graduate students , and other healthcare providers who work with adults and children who have hearing impairments will also find value in it
The program consists of talks by nationally recognized academics and manufacturer representatives who provide updates on new technology.
Goals
Following this training , participants will be capable of :
Think about how bimodal neuromodulation can be used in a therapeutic context to treat patients with tinnitus .
Give an explanation of evidence-based practice and list the elements of audiological evaluation that are evidence-based
Give instances of physical and acoustic facts that don ‘t need to be evaluated using evidence
Recognize the meanings and distinctions between burnout , sustainability , moral harm , and empathic distress
Provide an explanation of three tactics or methods for fostering personal resilience in therapeutic settings
Recognize the symptoms of vestibular migraine and learn how to measure them using patient-reported outcome measures
Recognize the research supporting various vestibular migraine therapy techniques
Explain the many genetic causes of SNHL as well as the procedures and interpretations involved in SNHL genetic testing
Recognize the clinical implications of SNHL genetic testing
Describe the newly revised 60/60 referral guideline (Zwolan et al
, 2020 ) for cochlear implant evaluation referrals and list the three patient categories that satisfy the enhanced FDA requirements for candidacies for cochlear implants
Give an example of a hearing loss profile that would be eligible for electro-acoustic (EAS, hybrid ) communication
List the contents of the FDA rule that is either proposed or finalized
Examine and contrast approaches for incorporating direct-to-consumer amplifiers , such as OTC HAs , into audiology practices
Describe the patient ‘s care pathway
Determine the degree and types of hearing loss that could occur , as well as how the COVID-19 virus produces tinnitus , hearing loss , and/or balance issues
Select and evaluate which objective and subjective audiometric tests are suitable for COVID-19 survivors , as well as the test findings for patients who claim to have “brain fog ” spoke about the benefits of ultrasonography over existing technologies for hearing aids and the evidence from animals to back up its potential for use in hearing applications
Understand the impact diabetes has on the auditory system and develop a program for people with diabetes that includes hearing screening and monitoring
Give an explanation of the advantages of providing D/HH children with routine collaborative , interdisciplinary care , along with important milestones for teams along the way
Explain the tools and techniques for good communication that can be used to maximize hearing and communication during interactions.
